Fire Commissioning

Fire System Commissioning & Certification

Get your fire alarm and detection system installed, tested and signed off by recognised experts. Whilst an electrician can fit detectors, panels and call points, only a certified fire systems commissioning engineer can verify, document and ensure your system meets legal and safety requirements. Neuro Systems provides complete Fire System Commissioning, testing and certification services, giving you confidence that your system is fully compliant and ready to operate.

Why Commissioning Matters

Proper Fire System Commissioning is vital to ensure that your fire alarm system functions correctly and meets UK standards. Our commissioning process verifies every device and control, ensuring your building’s protection systems perform as designed when needed most.
Z

Regulatory compliance

Fire systems must meet BS 5839-1 (or the relevant part) and be commissioned correctly to remain compliant and maintain insurance coverage.

Z

System reliability

Thorough commissioning testing verifies wiring, device location, cause and effect logic, panel programming and alarm sequences, ensuring your system is not just installed but fully operational.

Z

Peace of Mind

You receive full documentation, signed-off test certificates and a fully tested system, ready for safe handover and future maintenance.

Our Commissioning Process

Our Fire System Commissioning process ensures that every fire alarm, detector and control unit performs safely and reliably. Choosing the right fire suppression system is vital for safeguarding your premises and assets, and our engineers guide you through the key factors that influence system performance and compliance.
Fire System Commissioning Process

Our Step-by-Step Fire System Commissioning Process

Step 1: Pre-handover site visit

Our engineer visits your site before handover to check installation against design drawings, verify device layout and confirm that all equipment meets specification.

Step 2: Functional wiring & device testing

We test every detector, manual call-point, sounder, interfaces and control modules; check wiring accuracy, loop integrity and proper device type.

+

Step 3: Cause & effect logic check

We test the control panel logic (what makes what happen), that alarms, smoke/heat zones, evacuation routing, suppression interfaces and interlinked systems respond as required.

Business Management Systems (dependent on premises)

Integration of fire detection and building management systems such as elevator recall (sending lifts to the ground floor) and pressurised fan units in escape stairwells for smoke control and dispersion.

Step 4: Final system test & walk-through

We test for conditions of fire, check alarm propagation, panel response and automatic suppression where installed and obtain the building’s evacuation sequence to perfection.

i

Step 5: Documentation & certification

After testing, you’ll receive:

  • A signed fire system commissioning certificate
  • Full test sheets and cause & effect log
  • A summary report outlining any deficiencies and corrections
  • Handover pack with details relating to the installation and maintenance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does commissioning substitute for maintenance?

No. Fire System Commissioning is a one-time validation and handover process carried out after installation. Regular servicing and maintenance are still required to keep the system compliant and operational.

If my installer says “it’s commissioned”, is that enough?

You should confirm that the commissioning was carried out by an accredited engineer (BAFE/BA) and that full documentation has been provided. Without certified Fire System Commissioning, insurance and compliance issues may arise.

What happens if faults are found?

If faults are identified during testing, we provide a detailed deficiencies log and coordinate any necessary corrections across the entire system, including detection, alarm, control and suppression equipment. Full fire system certification is only issued once every component has been successfully tested and verified through our fire alarm commissioning process, ensuring your system is safe, compliant and fully operational.

How long does commissioning take?

The duration in getting a fire system certification completed, depends on site size and complexity. Typically, a small site takes half a day, while a large multi-zone site may take several days. We plan efficiently to minimise disruption.
